Overview

GTA 6’s dual-protagonist system lets players switch between Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval — a direct evolution of the character-switching mechanic introduced in GTA V. The difference is emotional, not just technical: where GTA V’s trio were business associates, Lucia and Jason are a couple.

Evolution From GTA V

GTA V pioneered on-the-fly switching between Michael, Franklin, and Trevor, each with distinct abilities and storylines that occasionally intertwined. GTA 6 narrows the roster to two but deepens the connection — every switch carries relationship weight, and the protagonists’ fates are genuinely intertwined rather than merely overlapping.

How It Plays

During missions, players can reportedly swap between Lucia and Jason to approach obstacles differently — one handling technical or infiltration tasks, the other muscle and driving. Outside missions, each character has their own life, activities, and perspective on the world.

Why It Matters

The dual-protagonist system is the mechanical expression of GTA 6’s central love story. By making the two leads switchable and mutually dependent, Rockstar ties gameplay directly to theme — the tension of staying together, the cost of choices, and the gameplay of two people who need each other to survive.

Note: Exact switching rules and mission structure will be confirmed at launch.
